We are pleased to announce that Hedvig Moe will join the Thommessen partnership from 1 October 2024. Our clients have already benefited greatly from Hedvig’s unique expertise with national security, and her appointment to partner marks an important step in the further development of our work in this area.

Hedvig joined Thommessen as Specialist Counsel in May 2023, from her position as Deputy Chief of the Norwegian domestic intelligence agency and Police Security Service (PST). Through her work at PST, she gained extensive insight into areas such as geopolitics, security policy, and foreign intelligence. She has also held several key positions at the National Authority for Investigation and Prosecution of Economic and Environmental Crime (Økokrim), where she focused primarily on financial market crime. At Thommessen, she has led our work in national security, where we assist clients in understanding and managing complex threats and regulatory challenges.

- We are delighted to welcome Hedvig as a partner. Her unique background and expertise have strengthened Thommessen’s ability to offer strategic advice at the intersection of law, risk, and business strategy, says Managing Partner Sverre Tyrhaug.

A challenging and complex threat landscape

Today's heightened threat landscape, coupled with an increasingly tense geopolitical situation, has led to a marked increase in the laws and regulations that businesses must navigate. Sanctions, export controls, the Norwegian Security Act, and stricter rules on foreign direct investment (FDI) affect many companies' operational flexibility and strategic decisions. At the same time, the risks of espionage and sabotage – both physical and within the cyber domain – are increasing. These are some of the issues Hedvig, along with colleagues across the firm, advises our clients on.

- At Thommessen, I have the pleasure of working with some of the industry's top lawyers in areas such as M&A, procurement, employment law, technology, sanctions, compliance, and competition law. By combining the industry's best legal expertise with experience from government agencies and an understanding of today's threat landscape, we can offer our clients unique legal and strategic advice in a rapidly evolving critical area, says Hedvig.

Further development of the national security focus

National security is becoming increasingly important for businesses in all sectors, with consequences that are increasingly posing commercial risks. With Hedvig as a partner, we look forward to strengthening our position as a leading advisor for businesses in this area.
